Elizabeth Anne Shields
Liz grew up on a cranberry farm in Plymouth, MA, with her mother Elaine, her father Bill, and her little sister Kristen. As a little girl – and an adult for that matter—she loved to play, be outdoors, and swim at the Eel River Beach Club. She was always active and excited to find different adventures. Liz wholeheartedly dove into new challenges from rock climbing to learning new dance moves.

Liz prospered at Notre Dame Academy (NDA) in Hingham, MA where she was an enthusiastic member of her school’s community. Through high school, she swam for the Bernal’s Gators where her teammates and coach became her second family and the Percy Walker Pool became her second home. Liz, her friends, and her teammates became a tight knit network who supported each other through college and beyond. Notre Dame and Bernal's Gators prepared Liz to thrive at Emory University. In spite of a demanding course load with a double major in marketing and French, Liz swam for Emory as an All-American. After graduation Liz spent the rest of her short life in Sarasota, Florida enjoying the sun, the beach, and spending time with her family.

Liz’s family and friends were the most important thing in the world to her. She always made time to keep in touch and helped bring everyone close together despite all the hectic schedules. Many of Liz’s favorite memories were from her experiences at Notre Dame, so it seemed most appropriate to set up a scholarship there in her name. Please see About the Scholarship for more information.
